A.    Get out the "Creating an Experiment using the Paradigm Wizard " guidebook that you copied from the library.

B.    Create an experiment with the Paradigm Wizard by following all the steps in the guidebook. When you are done, answer the following questions:

  1. What are the different general paradigms that you can select in the wizard?

Only 1 (so far): choice reaction time wizard

  1. What is the recommended Block Variable and what does that variable mean?

PracticeMode: if it is set to "yes" then data is not collected. You use it

when you want practice trials at the beginning of the experiment.

  1. How many trials will there be in the experiment, including practice trials?

4 practice trials and 160 main trials = 164 total trials.

  1. How would you add another variable to the Trial Variables in the Wizard?

Click on the "Add variable" button and then name it in the

            TrialForm variables list.

  1. What would you do differently to create an experiment that did give feedback on each trial?

Either check the feedback box in the Trial Events Sequence window in

the Wizard, or after the wizard, drag a Feedback Display from the Toolbox

to the TrialProc timeline (after the stimulus). Then set the details.

  1. Suppose you wanted change the way the fixation worked: instead of it staying on the screen for the same fixed period of time, suppose it stayed on the screen until the subjects clicked on the space bar. What would you do differently in the Paradigm Wizard to make this happen?

On the Fixation screen, click Duration/Input. Then on the Duration & Input

Screen, check "Yes, collect a response…". Then click "the subject responds

[regardless of how long it takes]". Then enter ' ' into allowable response keys.

  1. Suppose you added a feedback object. How do you specify that the feedback should be given for responses to the Stimulus object?

Click on the Feedback object. Go to the Properties Window. In the

InputObjectName  attribute slot, enter the target object name: Stimulus.

  1. Suppose you added a feedback object. How would you change the message subjects get when they give a wrong response to the target?

Double-click on the Feedback object. Click on the "Incorrect" tab at the

bottom of that window. Click on the text "Incorrect!". Then click on the

properties icon. The change the text in the text window under the General tab.
