The studies in this section deal with information that is stored for long periods of time and how it goes from being stored in Short Term Memory (STM) to Long Term Memory (LTM).

In both the time-based (iconic, STM, LTM) and processing-based (WM, LTM) models of memory, LTM is seen as a mostly permanent store of items that were once in STM. Whether that transfer comes from rehearsal or depth of processing or some other mechanism is still open to debate.
